A case of accidental death report (ADR) was filed after the body of a 73-year-old woman was found in the premises of a high-rise in Sewri early on Monday morning. The deceased, identified as Savita Laxman Sharma, is suspected to have jumped off from the 26th floor of Crescent Bay building following depression after the death of her husband.
Savita had lost her husband in December last year. According to the police, Savita lived alone in tower number four of the 39-storied building. Savita was battling depression after she lost her husband, Laxman.
"A few months ago, Savita had fired her maid. She had been alone ever since. Savita would visit her daughter and son-in-law often to spend some time with them. On Monday morning, at around 7.45 am, the Sewri police received a call from Crescent Bay building saying that Savita had jumped off from her house. She was rushed to KEM Hospital where she was declared dead before admission," senior police officer, RAK Marg Police station, Bhagwat Bansod said.
Savita is survived by her son Sanjay, who has settled abroad, and her daughter Smita (45), who stays in Parel with her husband and children.
Interrogation revealed that Smita had on Monday morning arrived at her mother's house but returned after no one answered the door. Smita was informed after Savita's body was discovered.
"After the incident, when we entered Savita's residence, we found that a small table was kept near the balcony which hints that Savita, during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, had taken the help of the table to jump. We suspect no foul play behind the incident but preliminary investigation has revealed that the act was out of depression. We are awaiting the post-mortem reports and family members are being questioned in the matter," Bansod said.
