PANAJI: Chief minister Manohar Parrikar continues to be under observation in Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim and would be discharged either on Tuesday or Wednesday, health minister Vishwajit Rane said here on Monday.

“The chief minister needs a little rest. He is fighting fit... there will be ups and downs, but he is in perfect shape. Blood parameters, heart beat, pulse... every parameter is holding on,” Rane said.

‘Doctors happy with his progress’

He also said Dr Pramod Garg, professor of gastroenterology and associate dean at AIIMS who has treated Parrikar earlier, has returned to Delhi. “Another doctor, who was dealing with him on another issue, will also come and just do a checkup because we want to see that every aspect is looked at,” Rane said.

Earlier in the day, the chief minister’s office tweeted from its official handle: “Dr Pramod Garg from AIIMS, who is heading the treatment of Chief Minister @manoharparrikar has conducted a thorough check up of the CM. The doctors are happy with his progress and the Chief Minister continues to be stable.”

Speaker Pramod Sawant also said that Parrikar’s condition was “much more stable”. “I have spoken to Dr Garg and he told me the bleeding has stopped and he is improving. He had vomitted a little blood, but he is fine now and at this moment, all his health parameters are stable,” he said.

Later in the night, the chief minister’s office in response to Sawant’s comments, said in a cryptic statement: “Whatever are the facts with respect to health of the chief minister, his office has given press release from time to time and we stand by it.”

The 63-year-old chief minister, who has been battling a pancreatic ailment for a year, was admitted to GMC on Saturday night. Though there were rumours of internal bleeding and the chief minister’s office had tweeted that he was taken to GMC for gastrointestinal endoscopy, Rane outrightly denied it. “No endoscopy was conducted on the chief minister. There is no bleeding or anything,” he said.

BJP national organising secretary B L Santosh and state organisation secretary Satish Dhond also met Parrikar in hospital.
