NEW DELHI: A businessman was held captive inside his car at gunpoint in west Delhi's Punjabi Bagh during the early on Saturday. The armed men took all the cash, jewellery and debit cards before throwing the victim, Amit Kumar, off the car and driving away with it.
Police said the incident happened near Punjabi Bagh underpass and a case of robbery, abduction and under Arms Act has been registered.
Kumar (37), who lives in Rohini's Sector 8 and runs his own business, told the cops that he was returning home at midnight after attending a friend's wedding in Karol Bagh. At 12.40am when he was crossing the Punjabi Bagh underpass, a small pickup truck hit his Tata Tigor from the side.
Kumar claimed that he stopped his car to assess the damage when the truck driver came and pulled out a gun at him and then slapped him. By that time, two more men came out of the truck, held him, and shoved him inside the car's back seat. They then blindfolded him and switched off his mobile phone to ensure he doesn't contact anyone, police said.
The men then took off with the car and the truck trailed behind. The accused snatched Kumar's gold chain and nearly Rs 10,000 cash. After driving him around for 30 minutes on Ring Road, they threw him out of the car. Kumar later took help of some passersby and contacted his family who came and picked him up. He then made a PCR call and filed his complaint, following which a case was registered.
The police teams are scanning the CCTV footage from the area to ascertain the exact sequence of events and are chalking out the route the car took. The cops have also put Kumar's phone on technical surveillance to ascertain the robbers' current location.
