Pune: Criminal held for assaulting, robbing businessman

Representative imagePUNE: The Kondhwa police on Tuesday arrested a criminal, Sumit Kakasaheb Jadhav (21), and booked his accomplice for assaulting a businessman with a knife and robbing him of cash Rs 2,200 at Shivnerinagar here on Sunday around 7am.
The Pune cantonment court has sent Jadhav, a resident of Shivnerinagar, in police remand till Wednesday.
Panipuri businessman Alim Baig (29) from Shivnerinagar has lodged an FIR against Jadhav and his accomplice at Kondhwa police.
Baig in his FIR said,“On Sunday, I left my house for having a cup of tea in a nearby hotel at about 7am and from there I reached a pan shop for purchasing cigarette. Jadhav also arrived at the shop and demanded money from me, but I refused to budge into his demand. I asked him to leave the place.”
The complaint read,“Jadhav again asked Baig to meet his demand as he was possessing money, but he rejected his demand. Jadhav suddenly pulled out a knife and threatened the businessman with a knife and asked him to shell money. Baig retaliated in self-defence and again turned down his demand.”
Police said,“Jadhav in a fit of anger assaulted Baig on his left hand and pushed him down on the road. His accomplice caught hold of his hands and the criminal robbed cash Rs 2,200 from his pocket. The terrified businessman raised an alarm and a sizeable crowd rushed to the spot for helping him. Sensing trouble, Jadhav and his accomplice took to heels.”
A police team led by Chetan More, Santosh Shinde, Rajas Shaikh, Yogesh Kumbhar and Umakant Swamy under inspector Mahadeo Kumbhar launched a hunt for tracing Jadhav but his whereabouts were not known.
Police arrested Jadhav after he arrived at his residence around 1am, following a tip-off. Police are on the lookout for his accomplice.
