BU will get new VC only after Ganapathi’s term ends: Min
tnn | Feb 27, 2019, 04:38 ISTCoimbatore: Pointing out that Bharathiar University’s former vice-chancellor (VC) A Ganapathi, who was arrested on charges of graft, has only been suspended and not permanently removed from his post, higher education minister K P Anbalagan on Tuesday said a new VC would be appointed only after the former’s tenure ends in March.
While the norms put down that the VC search committee should be set up six months before the end of a VC’s tenure, the VC search committee has not yet been fully set up.
“Two search committee members, one nominated by the syndicate and the other by the senate, have been selected. The government has to select a search committee nominee. The third member would soon be selected and the committee would select a new VC,” Anbaagan told reporters after attending the 35th convocation of the Bharathiar University.
While academicians had expressed concerns over the inordinate delay in the selection of the government nominee for the VC search committee, Anbalagan denied any such delay. “There is no delay. In all the 13 state universities under the higher education department, vice-chancellors have been appointed with no delays of any sort,” he replied to a particular question on the issue.
Though applications for five vacant administrative posts have been received, the posts are yet to be filled. When questioned about this, Anbalagan said measures would be taken to appoint members for the posts for which applications have been scrutinised completely.
Mangat Ram Sharma, principal secretary to the higher education department and convener of the convener committee of Bharathiar University, said the new vice chancellor would be appointed only after March.
