Police investigate sudden death at Murdoch University

Police are investigating a sudden death at Murdoch University on Monday morning.

The report was made at 10.40am at the university’s South Street campus.

Emergency services and police have converged near the dive shed on campus, and students were notified of its closure just after 12.40pm.

The shed is used by students to hire out diving gear, and it has been roped off by police.

St John Ambulance said two of its units attended responding to reports of a cardiac arrest.

According to a spokesman, a cardiac arrest event can happen for 'any number of reasons'.

A Murdoch University spokeswoman said they were aware of the death.

"There has been an incident at Murdoch University's South Street campus," she said.

"Murdoch University security services staff are assisting police with their enquiries. There is no risk or danger to university staff, students or visitors.

"We will provide further details when they are available."

At this stage it is unclear whether the death is suspicious or not.

Murdoch University students returned to the campus for semester one of the 2019 academic year on Monday.

More to come.
