Probe into doc’s thrashing of patient’s kin, scribe begins
TNN | Feb 26, 2019, 04:37 ISTRanchi: Authorities of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) has begun a probe against the junior doctor who thrashed a patient’s kin and a journalist on February 22.
Speaking to TOI, Rims director Dr D K Singh said: “A committee under Rims additional director (administration) Mritunjay Kumar Barnawal has started a probe and the committee has summoned the accused doctor and undergraduate students who were seen in the video. They have been asked to come and explain themselves. A few first year dental college students have also been identified and I have called up the principal of dental college to ascertain their identities. I would like to assure that the guilty will not be spared and heads will roll for sure.”
Later, Barnawal told TOI, “I have spoken to the accused doctor and have also called up the scribe whom he had thrashed. The probe will take some time and the guilty will not go unpunished. The doctor in question is sorry for his act, but we have made clear that the institute is not going to provide any kind of assistance if there are legal proceedings.”
Junior doctor Chandra Bhusan was seen manhandling the kin of an infant, who died in the hospital, in the February 22 video. Later, he also reportedly thrashed the journalist who filmed the incident. The footage also saw a few undergraduate students apart from showing the security staff remaining mute spectators to the whole incident. Bhusan was also asked to submit a written apology to the director’s office.
“Security personnel who were found negligent in performing their duties will also be taken to task,” Singh added.
Meanwhile, the Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) of Rims contacted the aggrieved journalist and invited the media fraternity on Tuesday so that the accused can seek pardon. However, the JDA members said they are facilitating the meeting to break the ice and JDA will not interfere, if the aggrieved party wants to initiate legal action.
