Chipezeze: I won't be faking injuries

2019-02-25 16:31

Cape Town - Baroka FC goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has dismissed claims that he is faking injuries to waste time during latter stages of PSL games.

Chipezeze came into the spotlight again on Saturday in his side's 2-1 victory over Supersport United when the shot-stopper went down near the end of the game for treatment.

The win was an important one for Bakgaga as it took them two points clear of the relegation zone but Chipezeze denies having to fake injury to help get his team over the line.

In quotes published on KickOff website, the keeper said: "In games like these [against SuperSport United] the intensity is high. You also saw my defender was down and bleeding. [James] Keene came and hit me on my head.

"I won't be faking injuries. You know sometimes some of these guys would be chasing games and want the three points at all costs.

"When you go down, it's part of football, it's not cheating. If a player is injured, he's injured."

Even though Baroka are close to the drop zone, Zimbabwean Chipezeze has enjoyed a solid first season in the PSL and says the Baroka side is still short of experience.

Chipezeze continued: "We are working as a team. Most of the young boys started playing in the PSL this season and as an international, I try to help here and there with the experience I've gained while still playing at home.

"It's not a one-man show. We are working as a unit."
