Former BJP MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, who had quit the party some two years ago, rejoined the BJP on Monday saying that the party has regretted the unwise political decisions made in the run-up to the 2017 assembly
elections.

The former BJP minister formally rejoined the party at the BJP Yuva morcha interaction programme held in Margao.

Tawadkar had quit the BJP after he was denied ticket to contest the 2017 assembly polls in the Canacona constituency.

He was welcomed back by state BJP president Vinay Tendulkar in the presence of central BJP leaders B L Santosh  and Meenakshi Lekhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Tawadkar said, “The BJP leaders in Goa have realised that they committed mistakes before and after the 2017 assembly elections. The unwise political decisions have cost the party dearly. The unwise decision had forced me to contest the assembly election independently. My contesting the polls made the BJP candidate lose the seat in Canacona.”

He said that he did not lose anything in the last two years, but the BJP has suffered a lot.

Explaining his decision to rejoin the BJP, Tawadkar said, “BJP leaders came to me telling me that they need me to fill the void. I thought over the request for the last three days and then decided to rejoin the party.”

When asked whether he would support Lok Sabha MP Narendra Sawaikar for the forthcoming parliamentary elections, Tawadkar was evasive in his reply, but promised to maintain party discipline.

To another question as to whether his differences with a few party leaders have been sorted out, he said that we have to make compromises in the larger interest of the party.
