Breathless Cancun Resort & Spa Breaks Ground

Construction kicks off on resort project valued at more than $160 million USD

AMResorts (AMR announced today the signing of Breathless Cancun Resort & Spa, the third Breathless-branded property in Mexico. This new deal reaffirms the company's commitment to expanding AMResorts' presence in the country where it has more than 30 resorts across seven award-winning brands.

The Governor of the State of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquín Gonzaléz, presided over the customary first stone placement ceremony where he was joined by Alex Zozaya, CEO of ALG and several prominent dignitaries, including; Mara Lezama, Mayor of the Municipality of Benito Juárez; Francisco Javier Luque, President of Fuerte Group; Marisol Venegas, Secretary of Tourism of the State of Quintana Roo; and Armando Palma Peniche and Armando Palma Vargas of Grupo Promotora Residencial.

Governor, Carlos Joaquín noted that the project will create more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, benefitting the local population and strengthening the competitive and high-quality product offering in the Mexican Caribbean. "Working together generate major investments for the benefit of the local population, will result in a better quality of life for the people," Joaquín said.

"Despite the challenges that continue to impact the tourism industry in Mexico, ALG maintains its commitment to Cancun and other destinations in the country. We remain loyal to our goal of attracting investment for new projects that will create jobs and economic benefits in these regions and the Breathless Cancun Resort & Spa is a great example of this" said Zozaya. "We are bullish on the future of the Mexican tourism market and will work hand-in-hand with local stakeholders to ensure this new project continues ALG's tradition of bringing value to the regions where AMResorts brands are present, with concepts that simultaneously surpass travelers' expectations."

Located in the vibrant Cancun Hotel Zone, more than $160 million USD will be invested into the development of Breathless Cancun Resort & Spa. The resort will be comprised of 429 guestrooms and suites, and it is slated to open in summer 2021. The resort will offer the brand's now-iconic Unlimited-Luxury®vacation concept, where everything is included, and all without wristbands.

"Our ability to leverage our extensive brand management experience in the region allows us to work with hotel owners to refine the product and provide an unmatched ROI for owners, while creating truly differentiated brands for guests to experience."

The resort is the latest addition to the Breathless Resorts & Spa brand collection, which includes branded properties in Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Most recently, ALG announced the signing of Breathless Tulum Resort & Spa, which is set to open in 2021. The brand's growth will be supported by ALG's strong distribution network to the region, which brings more than 2.3 million passengers annually to the area.
