Govt rolls out vans to educate voters about their rights
TNN | Feb 25, 2019, 07:24 ISTNoida: In order to spread voter awareness ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the district magistrate on Sunday flagged off two LED screen-fitted vans that would visit academic institutions and polling centres in different sectors and make people aware about their voting rights.
District magistrate B N Singh said, “These vans are an interactive medium to engage voters. Through these vans, we will educate voters about the proper use of EMVs and voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT). They will also be informed about their rights and duties.”
While the district administration has added 1.44 lakh voters in the recent electoral rolls revision, residents are still waiting for their voters identity cards. Harinder Bhati, general secretary Sector Beta I in Greater Noida, said a number of people had filed applications for enrolment and correction in June 2018. “Some names have not been added to the electoral rolls. There is no clarity when the newly enrolled voters will get their voter identity cards,” he said.
However, Singh said that all the newly enrolled voters’ name will appear in the updated electoral rolls and the electronic photo identity cards (EPICs) will be delivered to them before the election. Gautam Budh Nagar has three assembly constituencies — Noida, Jewar and Dadri — and it has around 13 lakh voters, 1,242 polling booths in 480 polling centres in the district.
