Drought team to visit B’luru today
TNN | Feb 26, 2019, 04:41 ISTBelagavi: Revenue minister RV Deshpande said on Monday that the central drought inspection team will visit Bengaluru on Tuesday and Dharwad and Belagavi districts on Wednesday. He said the centre has only announced sanctioning of pending compensation of Rs 949 crore for crop loss of kharif season due to drought but hasn’t released it.
He said the state government had announced 72 taluks as drought-hit in kharif and later increased the number to 100 but the centre has considered just 72 taluks to give compensation. “As far as rabbi season is concerned, the state government has announced 156 taluks as drought-hit but the centre dropped 26 taluks from the list even though they are eligible,” the minister said. Deshpande said there is no proposal before him about contesting from Belagavi the Lok Sabha constituency although his name is making rounds in the media. TNN
