Pay BSNL contract employees: CITU
TNN | Feb 26, 2019, 04:45 ISTHubballi: Members of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) protested in front of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) office near the railway station here on Thursday condemning the alleged systematic dismantling of BSNL by government policies and non-payment of earned wages to contract workers engaged in the telecom firm.
The protesters said CITU decided to extend support to the ongoing struggle to protect the major telecom public sector company of the country. They charged that the union government was systematically dismantling BSNL.
The government should take steps to support BSNL and extend all the resources, necessary spectrum and financial support to run it in a people friendly manner, they urged.
The protesters said contract workers engaged by BSNL at different offices and exchanges were not paid earned wages for more than six months.
It is the primary responsibility of the principal employer to ensure the payment of earned wages without any delay as per the provisions of the Contract Labour Act 1970, they said.
They also demanded the government to solve the issues related to contract workers and development of BSNL at the earliest.
Union president B I Iliger, general secretary Mahesh Pattar, Harish Doddamani and others were present in the protest.
