Black pepper worth Rs 25 lakh recovered

MUZAFFARPUR: A joint team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) seized more than 3,000kg of black pepper worth around Rs 25 lakh by intercepting a ten-wheeled truck on national highway-28A under the Motihari mufassil police station area in East Champaran district on Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody, but released later on personal bond.
DRI sources said it was one of the biggest consignments of black pepper seized in this part of the state in last five years. “The consignment was smuggled into the state from east Asian countries via Nepal,” a DRI official added.
He said the consignment was to be delivered to certain people in Motihari.
