BENGALURU: The fear of being unable to sanction fresh poll bound projects within the next fortnight, considering that the election commission may impose the code of conduct in the next 15 days for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Karnataka cabinet continued to hold its meeting late into Monday night.
Scheduled to start at 5 pm, the cabinet meeting under chief minister HD Kumaraswamy started at 5.30 pm but showed no signs of ending till about 9.30 pm.
According to sources, the initial set of agendas for the cabinet to deliberate were only on 21 subjects including a Rs 4,000 crore project for the ambitious Jaladhare (surface drinking water for villages) and fresh construction of tar roads for the gram panchayats.
However, by 8.30 pm in the night, the cabinet agendas continued to pile up with as many as 57 additional subjects requiring Cabinet assent brought before the council of ministers.
According to sources, the agendas which were added on Monday night included the elevated corridors and the revised conditions placed for the sub-urban rail network for Bengaluru.
Amidst the discussions, of the ministers who were present, three of them including E Tukaram, M C Managuli and Sa Ra Mahesh left the cabinet at 9 pm, with the rest of the ministers continuing with their discussions.
In all probabilities, it is likely the Monday cabinet may be the second last cabinet meetings with one final meeting scheduled later next week, before the MCC is implemented for the LS polls in the country.
