Truck driver accused of smashing into police van while drunk

A Queensland man has been charged with dangerous driving after allegedly crashing his truck into a police van while drunk.

Police accuse the 47-year-old man of driving a truck through the Warwick suburb of Rosenthal Heights while three times the blood-alcohol limit on Sunday night.

Police first spotted the Warwick man behind the wheel of a Volvo truck and trailer on Mardon Road about 10.50pm.

β€œIt will be alleged the driver failed to stop and turned into Schoch Road where the truck stopped and reversed back into the police van before driving off,” a police spokesman said.

Officers pursued the truck along Schoch Road before arresting the driver when he stopped at a home and allegedly returned a positive breath test of 0.153 per cent.

The 47-year-old Rosenthal Heights man has been charged with dangerous driving, drink driving, and failing to stop and comply with the duties of a driver after a crash.

He is due to appear at the Warwick Magistrates Court on March 27.
