NEW DELHI: Faculty members of non-government aided colleges in Chandigarh went on strike for one hour and staged dharna on their respective campuses in response to the call given by Chandigarh District Council of Punajb and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU).
Union president Dr Himanshu and Secretary Dr Madhu Sharma, in a joint statement, said that the teachers had been approaching the Chandigarh administration for resolution of their grievances for more than two years without any success. “After the intervention of the Administrator VP Singh Badnore, a series of meetings were held in October and November 2018 where an understanding was reached in overwhelming number of issues. However, the same were not recorded in the Minutes of the meeting,” said Sharma.
The protesting teachers said the Chandigarh District Council has been pressing upon the senior officials of the Administration to see the reason for more than two months now. “However, the administration has moved in the opposite direction,” they said.
This has forced the teachers to launch agitation and the responsibility for vitiating the academic atmosphere of the campuses completely lies with the UT Administration, the teachers’ representatives said.
