GHAZIABAD: The state government has decided to change the names of two metro stations on Dilshad Garden-New Bus Adda corridor, said Nitin Ramesh Gokarn, UP principal secretary (housing). While the New Bus Adda station will now be called Shahid Sthal metro station, Rajendra Nagar station will be changed to Major Mohit Sharma Rajender Nagar metro station, stated the letter that the official jointly addressed to Union housing and urban affairs secretary and managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
“We have received the order from the state government to rename two metro stations on Dilshad Garden-New Bus Adda metro line,” said the Ghaziabad district magistrate, Ritu Maheshwari. “While Shahid Sthal metro station will be named in the memory of martyrs of Sepoy Mutiny in 1857, Major Mohit Sharma Rajender Nagar metro station will be in the memory of a martyr in the Kargil War,” added Maheshwari
The state government’s decision to rename metro stations comes in the midst of BJP state office asking its district unit to start preparation for Prime Minister Narender Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit to inaugurate the Dilshad Garden-New Bus Adda metro line. Modi and Adityanath are also expected to inaugurate other projects like civil terminal at Hindon IAF base on March 8.
Mansingh Goswami, the district president of BJP said, “We have been asked to start preparation for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath who are expected to arrive on March 8, however, the date is tentative as there is no official confirmation yet.” The statement was supported by the district magistrate as well.
