Record breaker! Married At First Sight's highest-rated non-finale episode of all time slays the competition with over 2.2million

The champagne corks keep popping at Channel Nine as Married At First Sight continues to be a huge hit with viewers.

Figures published on Monday revealed the reality show juggernaut dominated the ratings overnight, clocking up a whopping 2,216,000 viewers nationally.

And in the all-important five metro cities, the show earned 1,659,000 viewers in the all-important five metro cities market.

The astonishing numbers for Sunday's commitment ceremony also made it the highest rated non-finale MAFS episode of all time.

The news comes hot on the heels of data from earlier this month, which showed the series had smashed its own audience record, reaching an almost unheard of two million total viewers.  

On February 6, it was revealed the total average viewership during MAFS' first week had exceeded 2,139,000 people.

Sunday night's commitment ceremony lead to a mass exodus that saw Sam and Elizabeth leave the show alongside Bronson and his 'wife' Ines Basic.

Sam kicked things off by explaining that he'd never found his Elizabeth attractive but was drawn to Ines.

'Obviously, from the start, I've been honest and said that I'm not feeling a connection, I'm not feeling the vibes at all, I'm not connecting with her in a mental way, a physical way, any way at all,' he said.  

'Then Ines obviously not getting along with her partner. There was an attraction there between Ines and I. And the opportunity arose where we could catch up and say hello and whatever, so, obviously, we did.'

After hearing all this, Elizabeth, who was red-eyed and upset, voted to leave, saying she felt she never had the opportunity to have a relationship.

And realising that Sam did not want to commit to her long term, Ines voted to leave too.
