Following reports of leak of question paper for Tangedco’s direct recruitment examination conducted by Anna University for the post of Electrical and Civil Engineers, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday granted an interim injunction on the recruitment process.

The petitioner, M. Paranibharathy of Madurai, one of the candidates who took up the examination, said that as per Anna University regulations, the candidates were asked to submit the question paper along with their OMR answer sheet. However, to his shock, he came across media reports on alleged question paper leak.

The entire question paper that was hand written in a diary was alleged to have been circulated among the dependants of Tangedco employees and also those who paid for it. This was a grave injustice to those who took the effort to study sincerely for the examination, he said. An inquiry into the question paper leak was also held.

Though the authorities concerned ought to have waited for the result of the inquiry, they had short-listed candidates and the selection process had now gone as far as certificate verification. The original question paper, which was later uploaded on the official website on January 10, had 48 of the questions found in the diary.

The petitioner sought an interim injunction on the recruitment process and an appropriate inquiry into the incident. He also sought fresh examination to the post. A Division Bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and S. S. Sundar granted the interim injunction and ordered notice to Tangedco and Anna University.
