Jorhat Delhi Public School holds annual sports day

GUWAHATI: Delhi Public School (DPS), Jorhat celebrated its annual sports programme recently. Jorhat SP Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar attended the event as the chief guest. The programme commenced with the welcome speech by the school principal, which was followed by the lighting of the torch, a march past by the students and an oath-taking ceremony.
In his speech, Nimbalkar emphasised on the importance of sports in everyday life. A school official said, "There were several events such as swimming, basketball, high jump, long jump, 100 and 400 metre race, two-legged race, relay race and mixed relay race during the day."
The qualifying rounds of most of the events were conducted the previous day. Only the finals were held on the ultimate day. "The students displayed Taekwondo demonstration. Hula Hoop dances and aerobics were performed by the junior classes. Fun games for parents were also conducted, which added to the enjoyment of the programme. Refreshments were provided to everybody," said a school official.
