THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of the Little KITES initiative by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) in schools, magazines of around 2,000 schools have been published online.
The digital magazines were prepared and published in schools from January 19 to 21 as a mark of respect to renowned author Vaikom Muhammad Basheer on his birthday on January 19. The magazines can be accessed over the 'Digital Magazine' link in School Wiki portal (www.schoolwiki.in) or through the web portal www.dm18.kite.kerala.gov.in.
School Wiki, the largest and most comprehensive content repository among all regional languages in India, features the entire literary works of students from over 15,000 schools in the state, from 2017 onwards.
In addition, the home page of School Wiki, magazines are also available in the web pages of the respective schools, with the thumbnail image of the cover page, said KITE vice-chairman & executive director K Anvar Sadath.
Language Computing is a major component in the Little KITES training activities, and as part of this Malayalam typing and Word processing are being taught to students. The magazines were prepared using Libre Office word processor which is a complete FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) based application. Similar FOSS applications such as Gimp and Inkscape were used to create pictures for the magazines.
