A chicken delivery driver who ran over and killed a grandmother before removing evidence from his truck has avoided jail. 

Emmanuel Xiberras ran over 61-year-old Jo-Ann Thwaites on Old Pittwater Road in Brookvale, in the northern suburbs of Sydney, in 2015. 

On Monday, the 39-year-old delivery driver walked free from Sydney court after pleading not guilty to both dangerous and negligent driving.

'I felt a little bump from the side of the truck but other than that, I didn't see anything else,' he told the court. 

Ms Thwaites was hit by Xiberras's truck while she was at a pedestrian crossing and was dragged under the truck.

She was then struck by another truck before dying at the scene. 

The court saw CCTV footage of Xiberras throwing Ms Thwaites's clothing which he found under his truck, and claimed that he thought they were rags.

Last year, he was found not guilty of dangerous driving and on Monday faced the negligent driving charge

He was sentenced to a two-and-a-half-year corrections order which can be served out in the community. 

He was also banned from driving from three years but that was cut to two years on Monday.

Xiberras will be able to drive again next year.
