AGRA: A woman and her two teenage daughters were found dead in suspicious circumstances inside locked bathroom at their residence in posh locality of Pandav Nagar, Shahganj police jurisdiction on Sunday night.
The victims were identified as Ritu Dhupad (38), and her two daughters Kayara (3) and Sachika (6), who hailed from well-to-do family. Ritu’s husband Rohit Dhupad owns garment store in Jaipur house, while her father-in-law Dr Navin Dhupad and mother-in-law Vimla run pharmacy. On Monday, after autopsy of the victims' corpses, their relatives took them for cremation.
"Prima facie we don't suspect any foul play, as the house was locked from inside and there was no other sign in the house which suggest trespass or confrontation among the victims or anyone else. The matter came to light after the victim's husband Rohit Dhupad, broke down the door (locked from inside) with the help of a neighbour and found his wife and two daughters dead inside bathroom at around 7:30 pm," said station house officer Rajeshwar Tyagi of Shahganj.
On Sunday evening at around 7, Ritu’s mother Rajrani called Rohit on his phone, after she failed to contact Ritu. Sources said, “Rohit too called Ritu to enquire, but she didn’t attend the phone, after which he left for home and found the door locked from inside. With the help of neighbours, Rohit broke down the door and saw his wife and two daughters lying unconscious in bathroom and immediately took them to private hospital, where they were declared brought dead.”
After the incident, Shahganj police along with SP city and CO Lohamandi reached the spot.
SHO Tyagi said, “Ritu was last seen alive at around 1:20 pm which was confirmed from a CCTV footage from the neighbour’s house. She was out on colony street for some work, after her father-in-law left for pharmacy at 1:10 pm. Her movement was captured in CCTV camera. During investigation, we found the 1000-litre water tank of the house empty, and the water tap of bathroom was also open. The LPG cylinder too was half empty. It seems that somehow the LPG gas used in geyser, leaked in bathroom while Ritu was giving shower to her two daughters. Though, there is ventilation in the bathroom, but the exhaust fan was not working.”
“After autopsy, victims viscera has been preserved for further forensic examination,” he added. By the time this report was filed, there was no written complaint from Ritu's parents. After cremation, police team will question Rohit and other family members in the case.
Youngest among two siblings, Kayara, was recently admitted in convent school and was to celebrate her fourth birthday on February 27. Her elder sister Sachika was a student of Class 1.
