Airport staff injured in accident

A contract employee sustained injuries allegedly after being hit by a bus of IndiGo carrying passengers to an aircraft inside the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Saturday evening.

Sources said, “Shiv Shankar, a contractual employee of the AI Engineering Services Limited, was returning to the terminal after despatching a flight when he was hit by a bus. He was dragged for some distance before the bus stopped. Shankar suffered serious injuries, including a lumbar (vertebrae of spine) fracture. He is in a hospital.”

IndiGo, in a statement on Sunday, said, “IndiGo confirms the incident involving a ferry coach hit at Bengaluru airport on February 23 before the departure of 6E 2808. The staff escaped unhurt with minor injuries. The authorities concerned have been notified, and an investigation is currently in progress with full cooperation from IndiGo.”

The airport authorities have alerted the officials concerned who are investigating the incident.
