Bhopal: A ballet Meghdoot was staged on Saturday- the second-day of five-day drama festival Dharohar (Dasham) at Shaheed Bhawan. Choreographed by MK Hojaigamba Singh, the ballet is based on masterpiece of Kalidas’s Meghdoot (Cloud Messenger). A poem of 111 stanzas, it is one of Kalidasa most famous works.s The work is divided into two parts, Purva-megha and Uttara-megha.
It recounts how a yakaa, a subject of King Kubera (the god of wealth), after being exiled for a year to Central India for neglecting his duties, convinces a passing cloud to take a message to his wife at Alaka on Mount Kailasa in the Himalaya mountains. The yakaa accomplishes this by describing the many beautiful sights the cloud will see on its northward course to the city of Alaka, where his wife awaits his return. It was presented by Kala Samooh of Gwalior.
The fest is organised by Kirti Ballet and Performing Arts, Bhopal to mark the memory of choreographer Prabhat Ganguly. A Oddisi dance by Kalyani Phagre and Vaidaihi Phagre will be showcased on Sunday.
