A two-year-old boy studying at a play school at New Washermanpet died on Friday after choking on food.

The police said the boy’s parents, Prasath, 37, and Suganthi Sharmila, 28, are employed in a private firm. They sent their child, Joseph, to a play school at MCM Garden.

On Friday afternoon, the school staff called Prasath and said Joseph had been admitted to a private hospital. After they reached the hospital, the parents were shocked to learn that their son had choked to death.

The police were told that the boy had choked while being fed. The doctor said the child had died even before being admitted.

The Tondiarpet police registered a case and sent the body to the Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem.

Further action would be taken after the post-mortem, the police added.
