BENGALURU: Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday appealed to people to not punish the BJP-led government at the Centre for not having built Ram temple at Ayodhya.
Speaking at an interaction here, she said, “We have approached the Supreme Court to grant excess land. There are issue but the government is confident of resolving it.”
The defence minister claimed that the Narendra Modi government has taken one major decision every day. Modi is on rapid speed, while certain state governments are extremely slow in developing the country, she added.
“Millennials won't forgive us for the next 50 years if Modi isn't voted back to power," she said.
In the context of Karnataka politics, she said the coalition government in the state had only effected the first installment of loan waiver to two lakh of the 60-62 lakh farmers in the state but the Congress was making a hue and cry about farmers’ welfare. “Despite consecutive droughts, the Karnataka government is blocking benefits from reaching the farmers,” she said.
She also took a dig at West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, saying that some people neither flourish not let others flourish.
About the Pulwama attack where 40 CRPF personnel martyred, she said the PM has already asserted that their sacrifice will not go in vain and appropriate action will be taken at the right time.
Speaking at another event later, Sitharaman said that during 2013-14, the Indian army did lacked basic equipment like guns and bullet proof jackets. “The Modi government in its first year iteself strengthened the army by providing the basic needs. The budget allocated to defence sector has been utilized properly which is why the armed forces are today in a good state,” she said.
