12 services cancelled, 40 delayed

Services on the Western line were affected on Saturday after a pantograph got entangled with the overhead wires at Virar station.

Traffic on all lines came to a standstill between Vasai and Virar for around one hour. The incident occured on a Churchgate-bound local around 12.50 p.m. on the fast line. As a result, suburban services were temporarily running only between Churchgate and Vasai.

A Western Railway spokesperson said that 12 services were cancelled and 40 services were delayed. The issue was rectified at 1.58 p.m. after which train services ran with a slight delay.

Suburban services had taken a hit on Friday night as well due to a point failure on the fast corridor near Borivali at 8.52 p.m. While no services were cancelled, several services ran around 15 minutes late as locals were diverted through the fifth line at Goregaon.
