MUZAFFARPUR: For the safety of late night passengers, police bus services were launched on Sunday in all the nine districts falling under Tirhut police zone.
The services, which began following a directive from Tirhut zone IG Nayyar Husnain Khan, could not be started on Saturday in Muzaffarpur due to the death of two police personnel including an inspector rank official in a road accident.
Talking to this newspaper, Khan said, “ After reviewing the crime data of all the 10 districts falling under Tirhut zone, I found that lot of loot incidents have been reported and most of the time late night passengers, who share public transport system to reach their destinations after alighting from buses or trains, are the victims. Hence, I decided to devise a plan to ensure the safety of passengers. I then asked the police buses parked in the Police Lines to help the passengers reach safely to their respective destinations.”
“Initially, this service will be available for passengers residing at the district headquarters. Buses will start from the railway station area and pass through all the major thoroughfares of the town. The bus service will be available from 12.00 to 4am everyday. An SI- rank officer along with two jawans will be present in the bus to avoid any untoward incident,” Khan said adding, “Services would be free for everyone.”
“Police bus services have been launched in Vaishali, Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, East and West Champaran apart from Sitamarhi, Sheohar and Bagaha police districts on Saturday night. I will review the status on Tuesday after getting reports from all the districts,” said the IG.
