PATIALA: Teachers protesting in Patiala have alleged that the state government and the district administration were pressing them to end their strike. They are scheduled to meet Punjab chief minister on February 28.
The protesters said that three teachers in Ropar were transferred and one more was suspended for not taking part in Padho Punjab project.
Meanwhile, a government school teacher was hospitalised on Saturday after she was allegedly threatened of dire consequences.
Paramjit Kaur, a teacher at Government Old Police Line School, fainted and was hospitalised on Saturday due to high blood pressure after she was allegedly threatened of suspension by block primary education officer (BPEO) Sarabjit Kaur. She alleged that the BPEO harassed her.
It has been learned that a team of education officers visited her school to conduct post-test of the primary students under Parho Punjab Parhao programme, and the protesting teachers, including Paramajit, had boycotted tests as part of protest over their demand of regularisation.
When I refused to participate, the BPEO threatened me. She said that I will be suspended and my increments will be stopped. She ridiculed me in front of the whole staff," Paramjit said.
