MSU's MRID hosts 'Vasantotsav' for fourth consecutive year

VADODARA: With the arrival of spring, students and teachers of the Maharaja Ranjitsinh Gaekwad Institute of Design (MRID) are all engrossed in hosting 'Vasantotsav' for the fourth consecutive year at M S University.
The three days design and craft fest which provides a platform to artisans from across the country began on Friday.
To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the students have put up a unique installation of Gandhiji with 'charkha' prepared from cloth strips.
Also, visitors are getting an opportunity to pay hommage to the bravehearts who lost their lives in the recent terror attack at Pulwama through a 'smruti mandap' or a 'sahid sthal' which has been set up at the campus as a tribute to the CRPF personnel.
Last year's fest had witnessed a footfall of around 10,000 visitors and this year, MRID is expecting the football to cross this mark by Sunday night as artisans from Kutch to Bastar, Rajasthan to West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are participating in the fest.
The idea behind the fest is not only to provide a platform to craftsmen but also provide students and Barodians are large exposure to the variety of indigenous craft for which the country is known.
