NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi kept election schedule in mind while suspending his monthly radio programme for over two months. After announcement of poll dates, the model code of conduct will come into effect, restricting use of public resources.
Modi, who has usually avoided current political contexts in the talk, said, "I feel that you have adopted me as part of your family. This has been a very sublime experience." A few minutes later, BJP president Amit Shah asserted at a rally in Amritsar that Modi would be PM again. "I can see the writing on the wall. Modi is once again going to be PM... Congress can daydream," he said.
Before leaving for Gorakhpur to launch the 'assured income support scheme' for farmers, Modi, in his monthly address, reminisced about the Emergency era and the subsequent constitutional reforms introduced by former PM Morarji Desai, whose birthday is on February 29.
Recalling Desai as one of the most disciplined leaders, Modi said it was during Desai's tenure as PM that the 44th constitutional amendment was introduced striking down the 42nd amendment which was brought during the Emergency and which "curtailed the powers of the Supreme Court and implemented provisions which stood to violate our democratic values".
