TNN | Updated: Feb 25, 2019, 06:11 ISTVADODARA: On the lines of Harvard and Oxford or IIT Bombay, M S University will have its own ‘Alumni House’ or ‘Alumni Nest’ for its alumni spread across the globe.
A proposal to construct 12-storey building at Chamelibaug, the first such high-rise building that will come up at the campus, has been recently approved by the university’s syndicate body.
The alumni house which will be equipped with a convention centre, souvenir shop, a restaurant and even a multi-level parking facility is estimated to cost Rs 35 crore for which the university will raise funds with the support of its alumni and corporate sector.
The Office of Alumni Affairs (OAA) has invited suggestions from all the stakeholders by March 11 for the final design of the building which will connect the university guest house at Chamelibaug on one end and the D N Hall Ground on the other end, providing an easy access to the main campus.
“Almost all reputed educational institutes across the globe have an alumni house where its alumni can have a smooth stay while visiting their alma matter. The idea is to have an alumni house where our alumni can stay during the re-unions which most of the time happen during the months of winter,” said OAA’s director Sanskruti Majumdar.
“The entire facility will be otherwise available to faculties and institutes of the university to organise seminars, conventions, short term training programmes and workshops,” she said.
While the ground floor of the alumni house is proposed to house a restaurant or cafeteria, the convention centre will occupy two floor.
The proposal is to have one huge hall that can accommodate nearly 350 audience at a time while there will be other smaller halls with flexible designs that can accommodate people as per requirement. “There can be one big conference and simultaneously there can be parallel sessions that are held at the facility,” she said.
With three-star hotel type facility, the rooms will be designed on twin sharing basis while there will be a travel/ help desk which will assist the alumni to chalk out their travel itinerary during the stay.
