‘Government educational institutions now being viewed as centres of excellence’

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has described the Kerala model of people’s intervention as the driving force behind the State’s development. He was inaugurating the new District Planning Office complex here on Saturday.

Each arm of the Nava Kerala Mission is functioning with the involvement of the people, he said, adding that the government could bring 3.41 lakh students back to government schools. “People have begun to view government educational institutions as centres of excellence,” he said.

Minister for Local Administration A.C. Moideen presided. Minister for Higher Education K.T. Jaleel was the chief guest at the function.

District Collector Amit Meena presented a report. P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP, MLAs K.N.A. Khader and P. Ubaidullah attended.

District Planning Committee president and District Panchayat President A.P. Unnikrishnan welcomed the gathering.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a housing complex meant to provide shelter for 400 landless families at Perinthalmanna. He inaugurated the handing over of keys of the Sneha Bhavan project for 640 Scheduled Caste families. Houses for 400 families are being constructed on a 6.87-acre land at Odiyanchola in Pathayikkara village near Perinthalmanna.

Manjalamkuzhi Ali, MLA, former Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty, Perinthalmanna municipal chairman M. Mohammed Saleem, and Life Mission Chief Executive Officer U.V. Jose attended.
