AGRA: A seven-year-old boy died after accidentally falling into an uncovered water filled pit in an exhibition ground in UP's Aligarh.
According to police, the boy, Mohd Zafar, had gone to see the exhibition with his father, Mohd Naeem, Saturday night, and accidentally fell into the five-foot-deep pit due to darkness. His father, who was completely unaware of the incident, tried to locate him till midnight, but was unable to find him. The father then filed a missing persons complaint at Banna Devi police station.
On Sunday morning, some person noticed the boy’s body floating in the pit and informed the police. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Talking to media, Naeem said though the exhibition had ended on February 21, but a few stalls were still operational and his son had insisting to seeing them. The father alleged that the pit was dug by one of the vendors who had set up a stall at the venue.
Naeem alleged that the incident occurred due to the negligence of the contractor and he should be punished for it.
Talking to TOI, incharge of Banna Devi police station, Aruna Rai, said that a case has been registered under section 304 A (death by negligence) of the IPC against two persons including the owner of Maa Vaishno and Company, Agra Road, who was the contractor for exhibition, and the unidentified person who had dug the pit for installing his stall at the exhibition ground.
She said that investigations are on and the accused will be arrested very soon. The pit was later filled with the help of JCB machine.
