NEW DELHI: A ground staffer at Bangalore Airport sustained injuries when he was reportedly hit by an IndiGo coach taking passengers from the terminal to an aircraft on Saturday evening. The accident happened at 6.10 pm when the bus was taking passengers to board the Delhi-bound 6E 2808 that was to take off at 6.55 pm.
“We had boarded the bus and when it started moving, it hit a person on the tarmac. The driver immediately opened the gates and we got off the bus. We could see the person was being taken out from under the bus. I really hope and pray he is alright,” said a shocked passenger.
Sources say the person was a ground staffer. Comments and details were sought from both IndiGo and Bangalore International Airport Bengaluru (BIAL) early Sunday morning. His condition and whether he was working for IndiGo, BIAL or some other ground handling agency will be known once they give details.
A senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official confirmed the accident and said a “police case of negligent driving” has been registered. The story will be updated once IndiGo or BIAL offers comments.
