Painter kills three-month pregnant wife, surrenders

HYDERABAD: A 24-year-old housewife, who was three months pregnant, was allegedly strangled to death by her husband at their residence at Asifnagar in the wee hours of Saturday.
Asif Nagar police said K Shalini, 24, was killed by her husband Vijay Kumar, a painter, in the wee hours of Saturday and later he surrendered.
Vijay, who was in an inebriated condition, picked up an argument with the victim, who was three months pregnant, at their residence in Ravindernagar at Asifnagar, and throttled her. Later, he reportedly used a blunt object to hit her on the head, the police said.
In 2013, the couple got married. Shalini was allegedly harassed by Vijay, who is an alcoholic. He used to physically abuse his wife after consuming alcohol. The victim had approached police in the past too and filed complaint about the physical abuse. Based on her complaint, Vijay was counselled, both by the police and elders in the family.
After committing the murder, Vijay surrendered before Asif Nagar police. A case was registered against the accused under Sections 302 (murder) and 498-A (domestic violence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
