MUMBAI: Two persons lost their lives in hit and run cases on the weekend. While an unidentified vehicle ran over a 48-year-old doctor on the south-bound carriageway of Aarey Road in Goregaon (East) on Saturday, a 32-year-old man was mowed down by an unidentified speeding heavy motor vehicle on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway around 1.30am on Sunday.
Dr Prakash Maldava was riding back to his Jogeshwari home when he was fatally knocked down around 11.30pm.

The victim’s wife, Madhuri, who is also a doctor has stated in her complaint that her husband had called her before leaving. Police said that the incident occurred a few minutes after he left his clinic. Dr Maldava suffered severe head injuries that cost him his life.

“We have sought CCTV footage of the stretch to track the unidentified speeding vehicle that hit the doctor’s bike and ran over him,” said senior inspector Jyotsna Rasam of Vanrai police.

In the Expressway case, the victim, identified as Mahadev Patole, a Mumbra resident, had alighted from a Honda City SUV to relieve himself on the roadside when he got mowed down.

API Mahendra Shelar of Khalapur police station said, “The deceased, along with four others, was headed to Jejuri temple in Pune. Around 1.30 am on Sunday, their SUV was near Khalapur toll plaza. Seeing a long queue of vehicles, Patole got down to relieve himself behind parked HMVs on the service lane and told his friends to wait after crossing the toll plaza. He was probably hit by a speeding HMV after he came out of the gap between two parked HMVs.”

API Shelar said they would scan CCTV images as some witnesses have claimed the vehicle that hit Patole had a TN registration, while others said it had an NT registration.
