Morning walkers and commuters on Avinashi Road were in for a surprise recently when they saw a bunch of youngsters, busy working with shovels and spades, donning gloves and masks, cleaning the road. The occasion was Swachchathan 2019, which was organised by Dr GR Damodaran College of Science as part of which students were encouraged to go out in the city and clean the localities. This time around, the responsible students cleaned the entire stretch from Hope College to the airport junction.
Students were divided in to different groups and were allotted specific areas to clean. They reached the venue in the wee hours of morning on Friday to take part in the cleanliness drive. The garbage waste was separated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste as well. The youngsters said that the event not only made the city a cleaner place to live, but also inculcated in everyone a sense of responsibility.
The event was inaugurated by our KK Ramachandran, vice principal and Geetha Padmanaban, secretary, Dr GR Damodaran College of Science.
