Nat Fyfe to have surgery on elbow
Fremantle skipper Nat Fyfe will have surgery on his troublesome elbow to ease the pain being caused by his bursa which has been drained several times.
The Dockers described the surgery as a minor procedure that will only require a short stay in hospital and they expect Fyfe to be available for the opening round of the season.
Fremantle football manager Peter Bell revealed the plan on 6PR less than 24 hours after Fyfe wore a sleeve on his arm while taking part in AFLX and said the 27-year-old may still play a JLT Community Series game.
Fyfe was captain of one of the four teams chosen for the tournament, receiving at least $20,000 for his participation in the night and promoting the competition.
"You don't make a decision to send someone off for surgery flippantly, but he got a knock on it a couple of weeks ago and it did swell up," Bell said.
"He said it was really painful and when Nat Fyfe says something's painful … he's the guy that played with a broken leg for a game a few years ago for a quarter or so and performed really well, so he's obviously got a really high pain threshold.
"I wouldn't think [his recovery] would be getting into the weeks."
