Amid tensions, Pakistan lawmaker talks of ‘dosti’ at Kumbh Mela

Ramesh Kumar Vankwani ALLAHABAD: Pakistan National Assembly member Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, who was among the 189 delegates from 187 countries to arrive at the Kumbh on Friday, brought a message of peace and love amid rising tension between India and Pakistan after the killing of 40 CRPF soldiers in Pulwama.
After taking a dip at Sangam and offering prayers at the Akshayvat tree, Vankwani said, “I have brought a message of peace from my country and believe that both countries should live peacefully. Both the countries must develop a strong ‘ dosti’ (friendship).”
“We should take things positively and I wish to be a convener of the parliamentary group of both the countries,” he said.
When asked about the Indian government’s decision to reduce the amount of water flowing to Pakistan, he said, “This step will not bring any solution and things will turn more bitter in days to come.”
Dr Vankwani, the founder of Pakistan Hindu Council, was elected to Pakistan’s National Assembly as a candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf on a seat reserved for minorities in the 2018 elections.
He congratulated the Indian government for organising the Kumbh on a grand scale and in a disciplined manner.
