Five members of an inter-state gang, which broke into the warehouse of online retailer Amazon.in and escaped with 120 smartphones of different brands worth ₹ 15.89 lakh, were arrested on Saturday.
The burglary took place in the wee hours of February 13 at Amazon’s Proconnect warehouse at Kompally.
Petbasheerabad police, along with Special Operations Teams (SOT) of Balanagar Zone, arrested five of the seven-member gang hailing from Assam and recovered 61 mobile phones worth ₹8.05 lakh from their possession, said Cyberabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar.
The arrested were identified as Md. Sirajuddin alias Tablet (25), Abdul Malik (20), Md. Mukibur Rehman (20), Md. Rafiqul Hussain (48) and Sanjay Kumar Nath (34). A search is on to nab the other two, Arif Ali and Santu Haque.
“Around two years ago, they migrated to Kompally and Medchal for a livelihood and were working as labourers and security guard with different firms. Sirajuddin and Rafiqul Hussain were employed as security guard at a house near the warehouse,” he said, adding that the duo hatched a plan with the other members of the gang. After committing the offence, they took the phones to Sirajuddin’s house, where they removed the outer packaging and distributed the booty among themselves.
