Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy of Telangana High Court on Friday passed an order directing Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar to personally appear before the court in a contempt plea.
Issuing the form-I notice, the judged directed the senior officer to appear before the High Court on March 22. The contempt of court notice was issued following a plea by a public health worker of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) seeking action against the officer for not complying with the court direction to regularise his service. The petitioner G. Amarsimha Reddy moved the Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunal (APAT) seeking regularisation of his service. Following an order by the Tribunal directing government to regularise his service either from the date of his appointment or from the date of completion of five years of service.
The government went for an appeal in the HC which upheld the Tribunal.
A Special Leave Petition too was filed in the Supreme Court by the government but the apex court ruled that the HC order should be implemented.
As the HC directions were not enforced, the petitioner filed contempt plea. The HC issued notices to the government a year ago.
Taking a serious note of the lack of response from the government, the judge on Friday issued the contempt notice directing the top official to personally appear before the court.
