THRISSUR: Even as the mercury soared across the state, an 80-year-old man died of suspected sunstroke at Panthallur near Kunnamkulam, police said on Friday.
Poongottu Veettil Madhavan was found dead in a paddy field on Wednesday, and his body bore burn marks. A preliminary postmortem report suggested he might have died of sunstroke, Kunnamkulam SHO K G Sureshkumar said.
Earlier, it was suspected that the octogenarian might have died of burns inflicted by an accidental fire in the field’s water-pump shed.
The SHO appealed the people to be cautions while working in open areas during the daytime.
