THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/KOTTAYAM: The Congress has named Uduma MLA K Kunhiraman as the key conspirator of Periya twin murder. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that there were attempts to settle the case by making a local worker the scapegoat . Chennithala also wrote to the chief minister demanding a CBI probe into the killing the Youth Congress workers.
“The visit of ex-MLA K V Kunhiraman to the house of Peethambaran and influencing the family by paying money is a clear indication that CPM has many things to hide. This proves that the party wants to silence the family of Peethambaran since they know too much,” he said. Chennithala said the people involved in the murder first reached the area committee office of the CPM after the crime. Peethambaran would not have done it without the knowledge of the party. This has been made clear by the wife and daughter of Peethambaran. All these clearly hint that the top leadership of the party were well aware of the conspiracy.
The present MLA K Kunhiraman is trying to destroy all the evidence against the party leaders and hence his role should be probed. A local committee member like Peethambaran cannot execute such a gruesome killing by himslef. Hence he had the backing of the party leaders and the conspiracy has been done by the leaders.
Chennithala alleged that it was a Kannur-model killing and hence it has to be believed that the party cadres in Kasaragod had received support from the killers outside the district.
Meanwhile, in Kottayam, KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran demanded an investigation into the role of Kunhiraman in the murders. Speaking to reporters after arriving at Kaduthuruthy, leading the ‘Janamahayatra’ of the Congress party on Thursday, Ramachandran said that the allegation raised by the father of the slain Youth Congress worker Sarath Lal was very serious.
He also said that the conspiracy behind the murder has become clear after the video clips of a speech by CPM Kasaragod district secretariat member raising death threats against Congress workers came out.
He also said that he was not satisfied with the current investigation.
The party will go to any extend to ensure the arrest of the culprits. An expert group of lawyers will appear for the family of the slain party workers, said the KPCC president.
