BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court’s Kalaburagi bench on Friday stayed police investigations into the poaching audio clip case, handing relief to BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa.
Yeddyurappa had filed a petition on Tuesday, seeking quashing of the FIR registered against him, BJP MLAs K Shivanagouda Naik and Preetham Gowda, and former journalist MB Maramkal on February 13 following a complaint by Sharanagouda, son of Gurmitkal MLA Naganagouda, at Devadurga police station in Raichur district in the audio clip case.
Court stays investigation till merit of FIR decided
The clip allegedly contains a conversation between Yeddyurappa and Sharanagouda. On February 8, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy had released the clip, accusing Yeddyurappa of attempting to lure a JD(S) MLA with a Rs 10-crore offer.
Two days later, Sharanagouda had filed a case at Devadurga police station under IPC section 506.
The court heard Yeddyurappa’s on Wednesday and reserved the judgment for Friday. It stayed the police investigation into the case till the merit of the FIR was decided. The court has asked Sharanagouda to appear before it and will hear the case in detail before delivering its final order on the writ petition.
Advocate Sanjay Kulkarni, along with senior counsel CV Nagesh, defended Yeddyurappa. Ashok Haranahalli appeared for the other three accused in the case. Yeddyurappa and three others had secured bail in the case last week.
