The Delhi Congress on Friday said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is indirectly trying to help the BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections by fielding its own candidates to divide the anti-BJP votes to help the BJP candidates win.
The party said that Mr. Kejriwal has been repeating his statement every day: that to defeat the BJP, the Congress needs to have an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi; but the Congress is not ready to listen to him or agree to his proposal.
The party said that in reality, the CM had not approached it for an alliance.
‘Only 2 national parties’
DPCC spokespersons Ramakant Goswami and Jitender Kumar Kochar said, “The truth is that AAP has no standing in national politics, and the Lok Sabha elections are contested on the basis of centralised national politics. In Delhi, there are only two national parties — the Congress and the BJP — and if there is a direct fight between the two in the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, then the Congress stands to gain.”
The spokespersons said that the Congress is confident of winning all seven seats in Delhi and that even assuming that AAP manages to win one or two seats in Delhi, it will have no impact on national politics. If the Congress wins all the seven Lok Sabha seats, it will have a major impact in national politics at the Centre.
“Mr. Kejriwal should understand the feelings, hopes, anxieties and dreams of the people of Delhi and play creative politics by withdrawing AAP candidates from all the seven Lok Sabha seats to ensure the victory of the Congress and the defeat of the BJP,” the Congress leaders said.
