Veteran jazz musician Dorothy Masuka (83) dies

UPDATE - Saturday, 20:30: Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa confirmed Masuka's death in a tribute post on Twitter on Saturday night.

"A baobab tree has fallen with the passing of a one of a kind Musician, the legendary Mama Dorothy Masuka," he wrote alongside a photo of the late singer.

"Her music was the soundtrack of some of our most joyful moments & the light of our souls during our darkest hours."

Cape Town - Veteran jazz musician Dorothy Masuka has reportedly died. She was 83.

ENCA confirmed the report in a news broadcast on Saturday night. Details surrounding her death are still unknown.

Masuka was born in Zimbabwe and was popular throughout the 1950s.
