A regular park and a garden park in Royapuram are in a state of neglect

A park and a garden park at Suriya Narayanan Street in Royapuram bear the tell-tell-tale signs of neglect.

At the park, seating slabs and parts of play equipment, including see-saws and swings, have gone missing.

G. Anu Arumugam, a long-time resident of Royapuram, says, “At this years-old park, components of play equipment and benches are missing. Children and senior citizens are not able to use the park. The nearest park for the residents is located at Tondiarpet, and the next closest one is located near Toll Gate, which is quite a distance away from our neighbourhood.”

Tipplers can often be seen sleeping on the walkers’ pathway at the park.

Trash garden?

Littered with so much garbage, the garden park is not far from being a dumping ground. When this writer visited this garden park, the plants there looked like they had not been watered for days.

Some of the pavements abutting the garden park is nothing are misused as an open urinal. Residents say they have represented the twin issues relating to the park and the garden park to Zone 5 of the GCC. But, no action has been taken till now.

Between the afore-mentioned park and the garden park, there is a small park that dedicated to former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj, and this facility is maintained well, and is kept closed.

When contacted, a senior official of Zone 5 of GCC said efforts would be taken to maintain the park and the garden park.
